British women wait five dates on average before they choose to sleep with a new lover, new research has revealed.
The study of 5,000 women commissioned by Ann Summers revealed that 80 per cent of those asked said that they would be prepared to have sex on a fifth date if it felt right.
Five dates is the equivalent of spending approximately 22 hours with a new fella.
A third of respondents said that they would be willing to have sex on a first date, but five per cent of the women asked said they needed more time and would only be willing to jump into bed after dating a guy for 12 months.
Jacqueline Gold, CEO of Ann Summers, said: ''This shows modern women know what they want - and when they want it.
''And it is truly an individual's decision.
''Girls feel far more free these days to go with what they feel is right for them and are confident enough to set the pace."
