    Music star Cher has confirmed that she once dated Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and admitted that she was "crazy" about him.

    The 61-year-old Believe singer made the revelation speaking to US chat show host Oprah Winfrey and explained that she enjoyed a brief romance with the heartthrob 25 years ago.

    Tom, who is now married to Katie Holmes, was just 23 when he began dating 39-year-old Cher.

    Looking back, Cher said: "He was so wonderful ... And he was so, like, different. It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him".

    Cher was already an established star when she dated Tom, who was still a struggling actor at the time.

    The singing legend mused: "Dating is a strange thing. It's not every man who can be comfortable with me. Being Cher is a hard thing and difficult for him to hold his place."
