Ever wondered why skeletal Kate Moss was attracted to featherweight Pete Doherty or why larger than life Dawn French opted for cuddly Lenny Henry?
According to new research, people go for partners with a similar fat level to themselves.
Researchers from Aberdeen University and the Rowett Research Institute measured the body composition of 42 couples and found that the amount of body fat in one person was proportionately very similar to that of their partner.
Professor John Speakman from the University of Aberdeen said: "What is currently unclear is how these associations come about.
"Perhaps the social activities of the overweight and obese people coincide, making them more likely to meet partners who are also overweight and obese."
The study also found that people often marry into their own social class as well as taking looks, height and race into account.
