American establishment the Family Love Teacher has gathered information from 280 failed marriages to compile a list of five dating lessons that people with failed relationships wish they had been taught.
The first lesson is that it takes two: no matter how much you want your relationship to work, your partner has to want it equally.
The second lesson is not rushing in. This combines with the third lesson of having control over your feelings. Couples must not get carried away by their emotions but should use their head as well as their heart to fall in love.
Fourthly, many couples admitted that they did not realise how expensive a failed marriage or partnership could be.
The final lesson is to invest time before committing. Many of the couples questioned said that the death of their relationships could have been avoided had they taken the time to assess the potential downfalls of the relationship beforehand.
