New research suggests that when a woman assesses the qualities of a new partner, it really is in his kiss.
Many men already feel pressured by the prospect of the first kiss, but they will undoubtedly be made even more nervous by the finding that many women base their assessment of whether a future relationship with a man will bloom on that first meeting of lips.
Researchers at New York's University at Albany questioned 1,000 students about their views on kissing and determined that a "complicated exchange of information" unfolds during a kiss.
Psychologist Dr Gordon Gallup, who led the study, said: "While many forces lead two people to connect romantically, the kiss, particularly the first one, can be a deal-breaker.
"Kissing is part of an evolved courtship ritual," he added.
Armed with this information, all you need now is someone to kiss. Search for your perfect date!
