A new private detective agency has been set up in Japan to help feuding couples to reconcile their differences.
The Ladies Secret Service employs secret agents who are contacted by one half of a warring couple wishing to get back together with their partner.
The agency's president, Yoshiko Okawa, has a dedicated and highly skilled team of fukuenya - "those who restore bonds" who use hi-tech surveillance, counselling and complete deception in order to re-build bridges.
One of the key elements of the covert exercise is complete secrecy and on many occasions the tricked party has rekindled their romance without ever becoming aware that they have been stitched up.
Agents are selected for their ability to forge friendships with complete strangers and convince them that breaking up with their ex was the worst mistake of their life, the Guardian reports.
"After they have won the target's trust, they might mention our client in passing and feign amazement when they realise they have a mutual acquaintance," Ms Okawa said.
"All the while our agents are learning as much about their new friend as possible and devising a plan to reunite him or her with our client."
