British singletons are shelling out ?1,000 every year in their quest to find true love, new research has revealed.
The average monthly spend for single people on the lookout for love is ?88.24, according to research from MoneyExpert.com, which adds up to a generous ?1,058 per year.
It seems that men are footing the brunt of the bill, as they claim to spend almost ?30 more per month on dates and nights out than women.
Geographically, the nation's capital proved to be the most expensive city to entertain your date, with the average London lovebird spending ?108.30 per month on romance, compared to just ?47.82 in Scotland.
However, all that flashing the cash doesn't seem to help, as one in four Londoners claim not to have a partner.
Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com, said: "Gone are the days of a bunch of flowers and a trip to the movies.
"The modern singleton must be prepared to fork out hundreds of pounds to find love as people get ever more extravagant in their expectations and their spending."
