He's been a soldier in World War Two, a legendary novelist's love interest and taken on a brutal dictator but the Scottish actor is about to take on his biggest role of all ? that of a house-husband.
The heart-throb has announced that he would like to take some time out from acting in order to spend some more time with his wife, Shameless co-star Anne-Marie Duff.
The 28-year-old actor has enjoyed phenomenal success in recent years, starring in hit films including Atonement, The Last King of Scotland and Becoming Jane.
However he has announced that he loves being at home with his wife so much that he wants to spend more time there.
Picking up a best actor award at the Scottish Baftas ceremony in Glasgow, James said: "I am taking a bit of a break. I've done enough for a while and people get fed up of seeing you, but apart from that, although I'm young, I need a bit of rest. You could say I have become a house-husband.
"It's not a new man thing, it's just largely a boring man who doesn't mind staying in the house thing."
