Contrary to the widespread belief that women are more sentimental than men, males are more likely to put romance before success, new research suggests.
Study authors Catherine Mosher of Duke Medical Center and Sharon Danoff-Burg from the University of Albany questioned a total of 237 undergraduate students about the relative importance in their lives of romantic relationships and achievement goals.
The research revealed that, when faced with a choice between romance and career, education or travelling, men were more likely than women to give priority to a meaningful relationship.
Men also appeared to derive more emotional support from their friendships with women than their friendships with other men, in contrast to women, who turned to their same-sex friendships more for comfort.
Overall, both men and women showed strong desires for individual achievement and relational intimacy.
Whether you're looking for romance or friendship, search for your perfect date!
