Don't let the credit crunch prevent you from enjoying a romantic getaway - there are plenty of red hot destinations right here in the UK, according to one travel expert.
Although couples often consider a trip to Paris, Rome or Venice to be the top of their romantic wish list, the North of England is equally atmospheric, Elliott Frisby, a spokesperson for VisitBritain says.
According to the United Kingdom Travel Survey there were 32.9 million overnight trips made in the UK by UK residents between January and April 2008.
Moreover it seems that the current economic climate has led to more people visiting the North, as the first three months of 2008 saw increases in domestic overnight trip volume.
There was a three per cent rise in January, eight per cent in February and two per cent in March, meaning that more couples are opting for naughty weekends away now than ever before.
Mr Frisby said: "The windswept north of England has always been a hot romantic getaway.
"Cosy up with a loved one for a break on the Yorkshire moors as immortalised by Bronte's Wuthering Heights, or in Whitby in the north east with its gothic associations, cliff and beachside walks."
