    There are a total of 715 reasons why people choose to have sex with a partner, according to two academics.

    Cindy Meston and David Buss interviewed a sample of people about their sex lives for their thesis entitled Why Humans Have Sex.

    Although a number of unusual reasons such as "I wanted to feel closer to God," "It just happened" and "I was curious about my abilities" emerged, the majority of the reasons cited could be categorised into five groups.

    The first reason was found to be pure attraction to the person in general, which may include their physical appearance, their character and their lifestyle.

    The second most popular general reason was in order to experience physical pleasure while the third reason was in order to express love.

    Fourthly, many people said that they had sex because of an expression of desire from the other person and the fifth general reason to make love was to escalate the depth of the relationship.
