    While many people feel miserable about their single status on Valentine's Day, it should be used as the perfect opportunity to get a date, according to one dating expert.

    Scott Patterson, the author of Attraction Mastery, said that the annual romantic holiday can often provide singles with the chance find love.

    Mr Patterson has made a living out of providing men with advice on how to approach single women and he says that if men are prepared to make a little effort, Valentine's Day is an optimal occasion because everyone has romance on their mind.

    "Valentine's Day is a miserable day for the guys who lack a romantic partner," says Mr Patterson.

    "What they don't realise is this holiday presents a unique opportunity for guys to go out and meet single women."

    Mr Patterson also advised single men to try online dating in their hunt for Ms Right.

    He said: "Online dating has now become a socially acceptable way to meet a romantic partner. Any guy who uses this method to meet women can easily set up a first date on Valentine's Day."
