    England's football stars were celebrating an off-pitch hat-trick yesterday as three of them decided to get married on the same day.

    Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Manchester United's Gary Neville and his team-mate Michael Carrick all wed their girlfriends on Saturday.

    To cope with the clash, Wayne Rooney and his girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin hired a helicopter to dash to Gary Neville's wedding with Emma Hadfield at Manchester Cathedral after the couple attended Steven Gerrard's marriage to Alex Curran in Berkshire earlier that day.

    Manchester United favourites Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt were also present at the ceremony and they were greeted by hundreds of adoring fans as they arrived.

    Midfielder Michael Carrick was the third football ace to tie the knot, marrying his partner Lisa Roughead at the luxurious Stapleford Park County House hotel near Derby.
