David Cameron, the Conservative party leader, and his wife Samantha are expecting their fourth child.
The baby is due in September; David could be Prime Minister by the time of the birth if the Conservatives win the election. While Samantha’s pregnancy may seem like somewhat of a distraction in the run-up to elections, it is likely to boost David’s image as a wholesome ‘family man’.
Samantha, who has brought an element of glamour to the Conservative party with her enviable fashion sense, and her husband are said to be ‘completely thrilled’.
The news comes in stark contrast to that of this time last year; the couple’s son, Ivan, died last February. Ivan, who suffered from a rare combination of cerebal palsy and chronic epilepsy, had a fatal seizure and died while in hospital.
David Cameron has never hidden that fact that he wanted to add to his family, he said yesterday that “the timing is obviously not absolutely ideal but we were keen to have another baby after Ivan died and sometimes it takes a while before the stork drops one down the chimney”.
