  Flirting can be a daunting prospect, especially if you’re the shy, retiring type. However flirting isn’t something you can either do or not do, you’ll be glad to hear that it can be learned. So whether you’re genius or novice in the world of flirting, you can learn something from our top 10 tips below:

  
  1. RELAX – Flirting can make many of us nervous, but what have you got to worry about? That it doesn’t go any further than a few giggles? So what, it’s all practice in the end, hopefully leading up to meeting your perfect date.

  2. SMILE – Show off those pearly whites and don’t take yourself too seriously showing that you’re having a good time and are an easy-going and confident person. Smiling is contagious so it should help you both relax and enjoy yourselves.

  3. MAKE EYE CONTACT – Looking lovingly into his or her eyes will show them that you’re interested. But remember: Don’t stare! Looking like the star of the latest evil demons blockbuster is not a good look and may scare them away.

  4. COMPLIMENT THEM – A compliment can go a long way. Why not make them feel special by saying something complimentary, whether it be how you love their perfume, or how beautiful their eyes are(try not to make it too corny), and you never know, you could get some back.

  5. BE POSITIVE – Keep conversations light. If you don’t already know the person you’re flirting with, small talk is fine. Steer clear of deep and negative conversations – your new prospective partner does not want to know all about how your ex dumped you, or how you had a dodgy vindaloo last night.

  6. PAY ATTENTION – When you’re flirting with someone, they should be your only concern. Make sure you listen carefully to wait they have to say - be polite and laugh at their jokes, even if they’re not funny.

  7. GOOD BODY LANGUAGE – Keep yourself open and approachable. Crossing your arms and fiddling with the bar mats could make you appear uncomfortable and nervous. Try to look confident even if you’re not.

  8. READ THEIR BODY LANGUAGE – While you’re focusing on appearing confident and relaxing, try and subtly mimic their behaviour (this is not a game of mirrors though, hence the word subtly!). Their body language will also help you to determine whether or not they’re interested in you; good signs include feet pointed towards you and occasional bodily contact such as touching your arm while flirting.

  9. DON'T HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS – Flirting can be a stepping stone to a wonderful relationship, however often it is simply a fun activity to enjoy and a chance to meet some new people. If once you have started flirting, it becomes clear that they may not be that interested in you, move on and whatever you do, don’t stalk them for the rest of the night like a crazed fan. On the other hand, you’ll probably know within the first few minutes if you’re interested in them, and if you’re not, make sure you don’t lead them by continuing to flirt, instead be polite and make an excuse to leave.

  10. BE YOURSELF! – Flirting is supposed to be fun, so stop sweating, take a breath and calm down. Don’t take it too seriously, try to relax and hopefully you’ll find you actually enjoy it and start meeting the people you’re looking for.
